I have been [intrigued by the hunter derbies] over the past few years and their fabulously beautiful and creative pseudo-cross-country jumps. But, I have to say that the line between hunters and eventers is just getting dangerously thin! I think they really want to be eventers (at least the working hunters at Horse of the Year Show); they just want to stay clean and tidy by jumping XC indoors. Hey, at least the footing is always good and you won't have many runaway horses on course!
Is this a jump? It looks more like part of the interior design
at Bass Pro Shops!
Honestly? Those are indoor, hunter, knock-down fences, and I would be a bit daunted galloping down to any of them! If I had to choose one, I'd jump the tree/woodrail/stone column oxer. Some of my apprehension definitely comes from the fact I'm 2'6"-3'3" kinda girl....and those are definitely 4' fences. That skinny gate with the logs in front is as intimidating as a lot of the cross-country fences out there!

It looks really cool. I have almost zero desire to ride regular hunters (although I do like their pretty bridles), but I really want to do a derby.
